free rice.jpg A colleague introduced me to a great way to keep students who finish assignments first engaged -- FreeRice.

FreeRice challenges kids and adults through quiz questions in a variety of subjects. For each question you answer correctly, FreeRice donates 20 grains of rice to people in need. While 20 grains may not seem like a lot, since the program began in October 2007, FreeRice has generated enough rice to feed more than two million people.

You can choose questions on English grammar and vocabulary, math, chemistry, geography, art history, French, German, Italian or Spanish. Based on the percentage of questions you answer correctly, the site automatically adjusts your level of play.

Another great charity site is AIDtoCHILDREN.com. It donates money to children in need through World Vision.
